Donna Young (Messinger) - Class Of 1947

Donna Marie Messinger May 25, 1929 - March 4, 2020 McCOOK, Neb. — Donna Marie Messinger of McCook passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at Community Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old. Donna was born on May 25, 1929, at McCook to parents, Roscoe A. and Theresa Jeanne (Morgan) Young. She graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1947. On April 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to Wayne Leroy Messinger in McCook. To this union two children, Larry and Patti, were born. They made their home on a farm south of McCook. In 1959, the family moved to Denver, Colo. They returned to McCook in 1965 and continued to farm until retirement. Donna was a busy homemaker, wife, mother and an integral part of the farming operation. She also found time to work in retail. Donna was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, playing Bridge, reading, and working crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren following them in all their activities. Preceding her in death were her parents, Roscoe and Theresa Young, and brother-in-law, Roy Mortenson. Those left to mourn her passing are her husband of almost 72 years, Wayne Messinger of McCook; son, Larry Messinger and wife, Madeleine of Louisville, Ky.; daughter, Patti and husband, Ron Uehlin of Oberlin, Kan.; sister, Margaret Mortenson of Panama City Beach, Fla.; brother, Dan Young of Denver; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; numerous family and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Nebraska Chapter, 11711 Arbor Street, Omaha, NE 68144.
