Nadine Gragg (Cross) - Class Of 1942

Nadine Cross

Aug. 20, 1924 - March 17, 2008

BOONE, Iowa -- Nadine Cross, 83, died Monday (March 17, 2008) at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa.

She was born on Aug. 20, 1924, in McCook, to Jessie Raymond and Stella (O'Brien) Gragg. She attended school in McCook. She then started working at the McCook Army Base with tool distribution. She also worked as a waitress at Modrells Restaurant in McCook. 

She married Kenneth Roy Cross on July 10, 1949, in McCook. She helped her husband on the livestock farm and dairy farm, and also drove a truck hauling livestock. She then worked at Hinky Dinky Food Store in the meat department as a meat wrapper before retiring. 

After retirement she earned her GED. She was most recently a resident of the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone.

She was a member of the Sweet AdeLines. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth Roy Cross; three brothers, Homer Gragg, Norval Gragg and James Gragg; one sister, Dora "Dottie" Mae Carlson; and son-in-law, Charles Murray. 

Survivors include her four children, Geraldine "Gerry" Murray of Boone; Richard Cross and wife, Linda of Venice, Fla., Heidi Pinkal and husband, Fred of McCook, Shannon Pevoteaux and husband, Gregg of McCook; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, at Evangelical Free Church in Boone with the Rev. Ray Feeck officiating. There will be visitation prior to the service, with the family present from 12:00 noon to the time of service. 

A local memorial service will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Evangelical Free Church, in McCook with the Rev. Bruce Lester officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. 

The family will be present at the church to receive friends from 9:30 a.m., to the time of service on Saturday. Her body was cremated. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Evangelical Free Church Home of Boone or Hospice of Central Iowa.
