2LT JAMES, VINCENT R.From Lincoln, Nebraska.Killed on an operation mission on 29-6-1944 as pilot of P-47D / #42-76476. Tasked for an armed recce and loaded with two 500 lbs bombs and a full belly tank the aircraft failed to become airborne and crashed into a brick house near the end of the runway at Christchurch. Crashed on a bungalow at Foxwood Avenue, Mudeford, killing the pilot, and 16 people on the ground, including children and British and American servicemen who ran to the crash site and were killed when the second bomb exploded.
