Robert Lewis - Class Of 1940

Robert J. Lewis Jr. died Sunday, November 20, 1988 at the Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 67. He was born October 3, 1921 in McCook, the son of Robert J. and Ruby (Lineburg) Lewis Sr.

He grew up in McCook, where he graduated from high school in 1940. He was also a graduate of McCook Community College. He served in China with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.

He returned to McCook, where he married Nora Cappel on April 15, 1948.

He spent his life in McCook, where he was business manager for the McCook Packing Company. At the time of his death, he was serving as a substitute rural mail carrier.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the McCook Elks, and the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers Association. He was a former board member for the McCook School Board and the YMCA.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Nora of McCook; one daughter, Nancy Frecks of Culbertson; one son, James of Culbertson; five grandchildren; and one sister, Sigrid Bower of Phoenix, Arizona.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Merwyn Davidson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Herrmann Funeral Home, McCook, is in charge of the arrangements.
