Doris Schmitz (Shepherd) - Class Of 1939

GEORGE, Utah -- Doris Lucille (Schmitz) Shepherd, age 86, passed away Monday (Feb. 5, 2007) in St. George, Utah. She was born Dec. 5, 1920, in McCook to Leo Joseph and Alice Maude (Nash) Schmitz. She married Kenneth Lee Shepherd on Jan. 26, 1941, in Phillipsburg, Kan. They moved to Denver, Colo., in 1942. From 1954 to 1980 they made their home in Salt Lake City, Utah where they raised their three sons. Doris was a secretary and treasurer of the Kenneth L. Shepherd Company during this time. They returned to Denver in 1980, where they continued operating the Kenneth L. Shepherd Company until Lee's death in 1985. She remained active in the company until 1998, when she retired and moved to Washington, Utah. Doris was a member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting, watching her sons grow, and working in the family business. Her retirement years were spent with family, friends and home surroundings. Surviving family includes her three sons, Dean Alan and wife, Ann Shepherd of Sandy, Utah, Gerald DeWayne and wife, Margaret Shepherd of Denver, Colo., and Neal Dwight and wife, Cynthia Shepherd of Washington, Utah; grandchildren, Stacey Ann Howlan, Kenneth Lee Shepherd, Jeffery Dean Shepherd, DeAnn Mann, Lynsey Larisch, Kimberly Peck, Whitney Yardley; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Helen F, Spriggs of Longbeach, Calif., and Leona E. Legler of Overland Park, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Shepherd, mother, Alice Maude Buchanan and father, Leo Joseph Schmitz, Rosary will be 7:30 p.m., Friday at Herrmann Memorial Chapel and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with Rev. Gary Brethour officiating, Internment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in McCook. Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call Friday from 9 a.m., to 9 p.m. Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
