Dan Arterburn - Class Of 1975

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Prop him up beside the jukebox... Daniel Kermit Arterburn, 61, of Prescott, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, due to health complications from influenza. Dan was born in McCook, Neb., on April 23, 1956. Dan began his career as a craftsman in McCook, where he worked together with his dad, Kermit, designing, building and remodeling over 100 homes in the area. After marrying Connie Sughroue and welcoming two daughters, the family of four moved to Gilbert, Ariz., in 1986. Dan continued working as a contractor by designing and executing the staircase at the Mayo Clinic, fabricating cabinets, and building one of the first homes with a basement in Gilbert. The family moved back to McCook in 1994, where Dan continued building custom homes. After a divorce, Dan moved to Omaha. Over the next decades, Dan designed and oversaw the construction of salons and agricultural structures. Dan spent his last several years of life pursuing his passion for designing and creating custom furniture using sustainably harvested materials. His final completed project included a hand-crafted crib for his first grandchild to be born in June 2018. Some of Dan-the-Man’s favorite pastimes included hosting husker tailgates, riding his vintage Harley, helping his kids with home-improvement projects, and searching for the next best antique Schwinn. While Dan was proud of all of his projects, he was most proud of his two daughters and son-in-law, Ande Arterburn, Elissa Arterburn Adame and Bradley Adame. He instilled in them strong, memorable values by saying often “dream big,” “always have a project,” "you're only as good as your tools," and “when in doubt, throttle out.” Along with his two daughters and son-in-law, others left to cherish his memory include Kermit and Charlene Arterburn, Deb Winchell, Tom and Cindy Arterburn, Lynda and Dave Kruetzer, Chris and Randy Zwickle, Connie and Jim Gohl, Gwen Davis, Barbara Sughroue Reed, Steve Sughroue, Kent and Deena Sughroue, Chris and Steve Struebing, Julie Sughroue, Kara Sughroue, Nick Butler, several nieces and nephews, and many great friends. He was proceeded in death by James Winchell, Robert Sughroue, and his grand dog-ter, Molly Adame. Per Dan’s wishes, his body was donated to science. Services will be scheduled at a later date.
