Kim Wiemers - Class Of 1972

Kim A. Wiemers, 67, of McCook, passed away at his home near McCook on June 21, 2021. Kim was born on November 28, 1953 in Fairbury, NE to H. Duane and Shirley (Ross) Wiemers. He grew up in Concordia, KS and moved to McCook, NE where he later graduated from McCook High School in 1972. He left for the Marine Corps where he rose to the rank of Sergeant and served from 1972-1975. Kim also served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserve from 1976 to the time if his retirement in 1995. On November 10, 1972 he was married to Jan (Helberg) Wiemers in Oberlin, KS. The couple first settled at Camp Lejeune, NC while stationed in the Marine Corps. The family moved back to Nebraska in 1975 where Kim was employed by Hastings Utilities, and he attended Central Technical Community College in Hastings and received a Construction Technology Certificate in 1978. They eventually made their home in McCook where Kim was employed by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a conductor/brakeman from 1978-2013, retiring after a 35-year tenure. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and carpentry. Kim was preceded in death by his father, H. Duane Wiemers and his mother, Shirley (Ross) Wiemers. He is remembered by his sons, Alan and Christi Wiemers of Riverdale, NE and Brian and Anne Wiemers of McCook, NE. His grandchildren include Paige Wiemers, Christian Wiemers, Kylie Wiemers, and Ryan Wiemers (Alan’s kids), and Derek Metzger, Dania Wiemers, Shannon Wiemers, and Ross Wiemers (Brian’s kids). He leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Evan Slagle, Woodson Durand, Alexander Durand, Anna Garcia, and Havana Martinez. His sisters include Carol and Stephen Fox, Karen and E.J. Walla, and Cathy and Don Knorr. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 28th, 2021 at 11:00 a.mm (CT) at the McCook E-Free Church with Pastor Josh Donelan officiating. Military honors will take place at the church.
