Herb Zuck - Class Of 1964

Herbert “Herb” Edgar Zuck, age 74, of McCook passed away Thursday evening, August 13, 2020 at Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska.  He was born to Leonard and Betty (Kusler) Zuck in McCook on January 11, 1946.  Herb attended school in McCook and graduated high school with the class of 1964.  Shortly after graduation, Herb joined the United States Navy on February 26, 1965.  He served his country for four years and rose to the rank of Machinist’s Mate Petty Officer Third Class.  Herb served on the aircraft carrier, USS Constellation and received several medals and decorations including the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.  He was honorably discharged on February 25, 1969.

Herb worked for a short time at National Steel in California before returning to McCook where he married Pam Myers in 1972 at the Memorial United Methodist Church of McCook.  The couple would soon welcome twin daughters, Darcie and Kristie.  Herb worked with is dad, Leonard “Sarge” Zuck at Sarge’s Bar in McCook.  He would eventually purchase the bar; he enjoyed visiting with his regular customers, meeting people just passing through and forming friendships with all the employees over the years.  After selling Sarge’s, Herb would go on to work at the McCook Gazette and then Burns Podiatric Laboratory until his retirement in 2011. 

Herb enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, raising a large garden and caring for his flowers and yard.  He really enjoyed baking and cooking for his friends and family and was passionate about attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Darcie Zuck; sister Nelda Grim and half-sister, Helen Hovis.

Survivors include: daughter, Kristie Cunningham and husband, Adam, of McCook; grandchildren: Khaley Lee of McCook, Jayda Zuck and significant-other, Anthony Fischer, of McCook, Kortney Cunningham of Alva, Oklahoma, Hunter Cunningham of McCook and Makynna Cunningham of McCook; brother, Dave Zuck and wife, Melinda Sue, of McCook; brother-in-law, Gary Grim of McCook and half-brother, Don Blair and wife, Patti, of Redding, California as well and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Memorial services will be 2:30 P.M., Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook with Mike Roth officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook with Military Honors.  No viewing or visitation; cremation was chosen.  Memorials may be made to the family of Herb Zuck for future designation.  Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.  Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
