Richard Wright - Class Of 1963

HOLDREGE, Neb. — Richard E. Wright, age 76, of Holdrege, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb. Richard was born Nov. 21, 1942, in McCook, Neb., to parents, Emmanuel James and Dorthey Fern (Thornley) Wright. Richard grew up in McCook, where he attended and graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1963. Following his graduation, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country as an airplane mechanic in both Japan and Korea. Richard was honorably discharged on April 9, 1968. On Oct. 19, 1968, Richard was united in marriage to Rose Ann (Moreau) Wright in McCook. The couple made their home in Stratton, Neb., and was blessed with two daughters, Tracy and Karrie. Richard spent his life practicing many different trades; everything from making doughnuts to farming, construction and cleaning offices. He was a member of the Imperial Eagle’s Club. One of Richard’s favorite pastimes was fishing with his grandkids. As a family, they shared a love of the outdoors where Richard especially enjoyed gardening, hunting and camping. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and a half-sister, Lois Darlene Mitchem. Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Rose Ann Wright of Holdrege; two daughters, Tracy Middleton and significant other, Chris Connelly, of Lincoln, Neb., and Karrie (Travis) Jones of Trenton, Neb.; two brothers, Albert (Sherry) Wright of Oxford, Neb., and Kent (Elizabeth) Wright of Huntsville, Ala.; sister, Belle (Jim) Witt of Boise, Idaho; as well as four grandchildren, one great-grandchild on the way and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Visitation will be Monday, April 22, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. A funeral service will follow visitation on Monday, April 22, 2019, beginning at 2 p.m., also at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Burial with Military honors will follow in the Trenton Cemetery, Trenton. Memorial contributions are suggested in Richard’s name for future designation, and can be sent on his behalf to Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, P.O. Box 476, McCook, NE 69001.
