In Memory

Sylvia Cain - Class Of 1962

Sylvia Joyce Cain was born in McCook, Nebraska on October 21, 1943 to Daniel “Bill” and Geneva Elaine (Fox) Cain. She attended school in McCook and graduated with the class of 1961. Joyce was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome in her mid-sixties. Living with Asperger’s made life challenging at times for Joyce, but she did her best to meet those challenges head on. She enjoyed growing up and living with her parents on the family farm ten miles north of McCook. Joyce was an avid reader which led to her volunteering for countless hours at the McCook Public Library. Joyce was deeply passionate about current events. Growing up and graduating with Ben Nelson led her to seek out biographies on some of the most prominent politicians of her time. She loved country music and for many years enjoyed the county fair where she entered exhibits ranging from flowers to produce. Joyce’s failing health and the passing of her parents forced her to retire to the Golden Living Center in Cozad, Nebraska. She was a resident of Cozad when she passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023. She was 79 years of age. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jesse Cain; brother-in-law, Michael Stark; and a niece, Terra Foster. She is survived by her siblings, Dennis Cain, Wesley (Nadine) Cain, and Cindy Stark, all of McCook; former sister-in-law, Lois Vargas of North Platte, Nebraska; nieces and nephews: Nick (Megan) Vargas of Cambridge, Nebraska, Michael (Mandy) Vargas of Hershey, Nebraska, Shaun Cain of Austin, Texas, Myla Cain of Omaha, Nebraska, Eric (Lindsey) Foster of McCook, and Fauna (James) Pringle of McCook
