In Memory

Sandra Wilhelm (Gotchall) - Class Of 1961

McCOOK, Neb. — Sandra Kay (Wilhelm) Gotchall, 78, of McCook, passed away on March 14, 2022, less than a month after her husband, Bill Gotchall. Sandra was born on May 5, 1943 to the late Donald and Beth (Relph) Wilhelm. She grew up on the family farm south of McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1961. Sandra (also known as Sandi or Sam), married William (Bill) Gotchall on Jan. 25, 1969. In 1977, they moved their family to Lebanon, Neb., and lived there for many years. She dedicated much of her life to being a loving, supportive mother to their two children, Jason and Kristyl. After the kids left home for college, she ran the Lebanon Post Office. Sam and Bill eventually left Lebanon to move to Wallace, Neb., and then Oberlin, Kan. They moved back to McCook in 2015 and lived there until the time of her passing. Sam was fun, positive, and always smiling. She was a wonderful wife to Bill, always supporting him in work and play. She thrived at being a mom, she was a loving and kind listener, yelled the loudest during every sporting event and made her home welcome to all of her kids’ friends. Jason and Kristyl are both fortunate to have inherited her positive attitude. Every weekend when it was possible, she packed the family up, including the dog, and took them to the Cambridge Lake. Sam was also an excellent grandma to her five grandchildren. Sam developed a community of close friends wherever they lived and truly cherished them. She was an avid bowler and even though she didn’t carry a high average, she played every week as long as she was able. It was hard to keep track of her before her illness, she was constantly socializing! Sandra is survived by her two children, Jason and wife, Jennifer Gotchall of Roseville, Calif., and Kristyl Karg of San Ramon, Calif.; five grandchildren, Haley, Reese, Kamryn and Kaden Gotchall and Averi Karg; one sister, Ann (Wilhelm) Doyle and husband, Ed of McCook; and many friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; parents, Don and Beth; two brothers, Leslie and Lee; and her son-in-law, Jason Karg. A funeral service is being planned for Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McCook.
