Albert Wright - Class Of 1960

Albert James Wright, age 78, of Oxford, NE passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, NE. AJ was born November 8, 1941 in Denver, CO to parents Emmanuel James and Dorthey Fern (Thornley) Wright. AJ graduated from high school in Missouri. Following high school, AJ enlisted in the United Stated Army where he proudly served his country until his Honorable Discharge in 1964. On March 28, 1964, AJ married Sherry Ann (Wickizer) Wright in St. Paul, NE. To this union four children were born. AJ worked as a signal maintainer for the Burlington Northern Railroad for thirty-eight year before his retirement. His hobbies included fishing with an ice cold beer, camping, hunting and working crossword puzzles. AJ was an excellent gardener and a wonderful baker, but above all he was the best husband, dad and grandpa. He never knew a stranger and always had a positive outlook on life. To remain active after retirement, AJ worked and helped a friend with harvesting and calving. AJ was a member of the Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He was often called upon by the Honor Guard for Rifle Duty. AJ was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Wright; half sister, Lois Mitchem, and stepbrother, Jim Wright. Those left to celebrate his life include his wife Sherry Wright of Oxford; daughters, Dianne Beck of Holdrege and special friend Dave Menze of Stamford, NE, and Damita (James) Sutter of Cheyenne, WY; sons, Delvin Wright and fiancé Debbie Wilson of Holdrege and D.J. (Tonya) Wright of Alma, NE; brother, Kent (Elizabeth) Wright of Huntsville, AL; sister, Georgiabelle (Jim) Witt of Boise, ID; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and close friends. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3 to 7 PM on Friday, September 11 in the Education Room at the Ag Center in Holdrege, NE. Leave your sadness at the door and join as we celebrate the life of AJ Wright.
