In Memory

Sandra Peters (Lutz) - Class Of 1959

Sandy was born in a rural farm community in McCook, Nebraska on April 25, 1942. She worked hard on the farm alongside her older sister Deanna and helped take care of her much younger brothers Randy and Rodney. After graduating high school at the young age of 16 she chose to leave farm life in pursuit of something different. She decided to move to Denver, Colorado. She attended the Central Business College and earned a job at Martin Marietta. It was here she met and married Leroy Adolf Lutz. They settled in Boulder, Colorado. In their 29 years of marriage they raised three children, Pamela, Douglas, and Deborah. Sandy spent the early years of her marriage perfecting the art of homemaking, including discovering and developing her love of cooking. Then as her children grew older she moved back into the workforce. She started out with a job at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and then became an assistant to the teacher in special education at Douglas Elementary in Boulder. With a desire to move into work where she could be of service she briefly went back to school in order to shore up her computer skills and became the secretary to the priest at Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder. When it was time to move on from this job Sandy spent the last 25 years of her working life as the Administrative Assistant to the Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder. It was at this job that she was fully able to manifest her desire to be of service and help others. It was also during this time that she was able to lend invaluable support to her suddenly widowed son, Douglas, who was tragically left to raise his young daughter, Veronica, as a single dad. After her retirement, and after residing on the front-range for 50 years, Sandy decided to return to the quiet of small town living and moved to Cortez, Co. Sandy lived her life with generosity and an unselfish desire to help others. She brought love, intelligence and an unapologetic courage to all that she did.

Honey Lou McDonald (Bonar) (1959)

Sandy and I had a wonderful time on a trip to Washington, DC, that our Methodist minister Reverend Edgar led in the summer of 1957. We stayed in churches along the way, learned to live out of suitcases, and fell inove with our nation's capital.   Darrell remembers her from band, too  We both send sympathy to you all
