Lawrence “Larry” Eugene Rothmeyer

Larry grew up on a farm south of McCook, Neb., with his six siblings. Later his family moved into McCook when he was in elementary school. After graduating high school, he attended Karney Nebraska Teacher’s College, where he earned a degree in education. Later in life he earned two master’s degrees, one in mathematics and another in school administration.

On August 5th, 1964, Larry married Saundra Applegate. They were wed in McCook, Neb., at Saint Patrick’s Church.

Larry taught his first year in Paxton, Nebraska. Upon moving to Leavenworth, Kansas in 1965, he taught 34 additional years at East Middle School and Leavenworth High; teaching classes in geometry, algebra, and math fundamentals. Throughout the years, he touched many students lives with his passion to share his understanding of mathematics. Larry also taught drivers education for many years and had the patience of Job.

He is survived by his wife, Saundra Rothmeyer; a daughter, Shawna Kavanaugh of Cowgill, Mo.; two sons, Dallas Rothmeyer and Ryan Rothmeyer both of Leavenworth, Kan. He was the proud and loving grandpa of three grandchildren, Nicholas, Rachel and Abigail Rothmeyer all of Leavenworth, Kan. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Rothmeyer; and his two sisters, Delores Lawson, and Anne Jones.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards with his siblings and grandchildren, and watching The Nebraska Cornhuskers play football. He looked forward each season to attend games in Lincoln, Nebraska, with his children and grandchildren. Go BIG RED!
