Dee Traphagan - Class Of 1959

McCOOK, Neb. — Dee Andrew Traphagan, of McCook, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings. Dee was just four days shy of celebrating his 78th birthday. He was born on April 30, 1941, in McCook to Marvin Andrew and Nellie Mae (Kettering) Traphagan. He was baptized on Sept. 29, 1946. Dee graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1959. He was confirmed and became a member of Peace Lutheran Church (LCMS) on Dec. 19, 1971. On July 6, 1978, he was united in marriage to Mary Rose Sughroue at Peace Lutheran Church. The Lord blessed them with three children. They made their home in McCook, where Dee worked for Parker Hannifin until his retirement. Dee remained a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, elder, head usher, and recording secretary over the years. He also helped with KNGN and their share-a-thons. Dee’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. He never met a stranger and loved coaching baseball in his younger years. He also gave back to the community that had given him so much by teaching Hunter Safety Education for the last 40 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Marvin and Nellie Traphagan; infant sister, Glee Traphagan; and infant granddaughter, Emma Ziebel. Surviving him are his wife, Mary Traphagan of McCook; children, Brandy Traphagan of Pittsburgh, Pa., Rev. William Traphagan and wife, Stephanie, of Bennett, Iowa, and Bobbie Ziebell and husband, Andrew, of McCook; three grandchildren, Sarah and Timothy Traphagan and Samson Ziebell; sister, LaRee Onstad and husband, Joe, of Lincoln; numerous family, and a host of friends.
