June 9, 1935 - Jan. 26, 2021

 

OBERLIN, Kan. — Opal was born in Fort Lupton, Colo., on June 9, 1935, to Roy and Pearl (Shephard) Cross, she had two brothers, Kenneth and Lydell Cross. She passed away Jan. 26, 2021, at Decatur Health.

 

Opal graduated from McCook High School in 1954. She married Eldon Huntley on Dec. 20, 1953. To this union, they had six children: Alan, Kristi, Suzanne, Gaylen, Mark, Dan.

 

Opal was a homemaker all her life and worked at Decatur County Hospital for several years as a dietary worker. She and Eldon lived most of their lives on the farm by Traer and moved to Oberlin in 1987. Opal was involved in her local church and was a volunteer for hospice for many years. Family was very important to her.

 

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth and Lydell; husband, Eldon; and daughter, Suzanne. 

 

She is survived by her children, Alan and Connie Huntley of Minden, Neb., Kristi and Jim Bond of Kearney, Neb., Gaylen and Vicky Huntley of Oberlin, Mark and Becky Huntley of Cambridge, Neb., and Dan and Doreen Huntley of Phillipsburg, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and four nieces.

 

Opal will be missed by her family and friends.

 

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2020, at Paul's Funeral Home, Oberlin. Interment will follow in the South Traer Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 2 .pm. Saturday before the funeral.
