In Memory

Barbara Ninemires (Klein) - Class Of 1953

Barbara Jane Klein, 87, entered into eternal rest early Monday morning, November 7, 2022, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. Barbara was born on October 6, 1935 in McCook, Nebraska to parents, Roy A. and Ruth (Miner) Ninemires. She was baptized on November 3, 1938 and confirmed on April 10, 1949 at Peace Lutheran Church, McCook, Nebraska where she was a member up until the time of her death. Barbara grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1953 where she was a cheerleader and a homecoming attendant. On June 13, 1954, Barbara was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Richard Allen Klein at Peace Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. In 1955 she and Richard traveled while Richard was in the United States Army. In 1957 they returned to McCook where they joined in the family farming operation. They remained on the family farm where they raised their children until Richard’s death in 2011. Barbara worked diligently beside her husband in his efforts of starting the Association for Retarded Children in 1968 in McCook. They both were an integral part of carrying out the functions of this rewarding organization. Barbara was a homemaker and a stay at home mom raising her children on the farm. She was busy with school functions, 4-H, FFA, livestock shows, meetings, sports and raising her children in the Christian faith. When the children were older she worked in town at the lunch counter at A&M Rexall Drug and worked for many years at Alco where she retired in 2011. Over the years she belonged to the Hospital Auxiliary “Pink Ladies”, the Gingham Gals extension club, and the Ladies Guild at Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years and loved her flowers and kitties on the farm. Barbara was an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia. She was a wonderful mom, grandma and great-grandma. She loved her family and so enjoyed the time that she got to spend with them. Barbara’s greatest joys were her grandchildren. “Grammy” as they called her, loved attending their activities of rodeos, showing cattle, roping, learning to ride horses, baseball and football games, trains, attending high school and college graduations, wedding receptions and baptisms. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved and enjoyed. She most recently got to hold her namesake great-granddaughter, Ralstyn Jane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, Christopher; sister, Eleanor Herman; and parents Roy and Ruth Ninemires. Those left to cherish her memories are two daughters, Ruth Ann Klein of McCook and Sally Lynn Henderson and husband, Doug of Alliance, Nebraska; son, Richard Mark Klein and wife, Penny of Catlett, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Robin Klein of McCook; grandchildren: Shea Baird and husband, Zach of Levant, Kansas, Sage Hofer and husband, Travis of Bridgewater, South Dakota, Cody Henderson of Alliance, Nebraska, Alexandra Klein of Arlington, Virginia, Jacob Klein of Columbus, Ohio, Kerrigan Klein of Englewood, Colorado, Gavyn Klein and fiancé, Stevie Wadle of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kimberly Trask of Simi Valley, California, great-grandchildren: Owen Roy and Libby Lynn Baird and Ralstyn Jane Hofer; numerous nieces, nephews, and a multitude of family and friends.
