Arlene Smith (Gillen) - Class Of 1952

Arlene F. (Smith) Gillen April 29, 1934 - Dec. 11, 2018 McCOOK, Neb. — Arlene F. (Smith) Gillen died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at her home at Brookdale in McCook. On April 29, 1934, she was born in McCook to Delva and Wilma (Blake) Smith. She attended McCook Public Schools and graduated in 1952. She married Wayne K. Gillen in McCook on Aug. 22, 1954, and they had four children. Arlene especially enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s activities. She also enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, ceramics, crocheting, baking and china painting. She was also a very avid Bison, Rebels, and Husker fan and had to be appropriately attired. Preceding her in death was her husband, Wayne K. Gillen in 2008; her parents; two sisters, Maxine Meissner and Geraldine Gonzales; one grandson, Breck; and special family friend, Linda Lu Lloyd. Survivors include her children, Judy Gillen of Omaha, Lance and Denise Gillen, Brad and Wendy Gillen, Kelli and Travis Zwickle, all of McCook; and eight grandchildren, Spencer, Kelsey, Zayne, Kassidy, Easton, Jenna, Jett and Brooklynn; and brother, Donald Smith and wife, Karen of Colorado.
