Kenneth Wahrman - Class Of 1951

Kenneth J. Wahrman, 77, was called Home on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, to meet his Lord Jesus Christ. Ken was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Kansas, the son of Matt and Helen (nee Unger) Wahrman. He was united in marriage to Jean Marie Taldo on May 30, 1959. At age 12, Ken was stricken with polio. Through his strong will and character, he overcame the disease and attained many personal and professional achievements. He graduated from the University of Denver in 1955 with a bachelor's degree. Upon graduation, he began work with Arthur Andersen as a CPA. From 1955 to 1986, he worked in offices in Chicago, Oklahoma City, Okla., Tulsa, Okla. and St. Charles, Ill. From 1986 to 2007, Ken operated his own accounting firm based in Wheaton. He also taught accounting at College of DuPage from 1986 to 1990, where he was named an outstanding instructor in the Business Program in 1990. Ken was actively involved in his Catholic church parishes at St. Eugene in Oklahoma City, Okla., St. Michael in Wheaton, Corpus Christi in Carol Stream and Holy Spirit in Naperville. Ken and his wife, Jean, served as program directors for The Happening in Christianity and The Awakening retreat programs from 1986 to 2004. Through Catholic Charities, Ken and Jean cared for 33 foster children over the course of 12 years. Ken was a devoted father and said raising his four children was the greatest accomplishment of his life. Ken is survived by his children, Kay (Ken) Prom of St. Paul, Minn., Ken (Sue) Wahrman Jr. of Plainfield, Jeff (Renae) Wahrman of Carol Stream and Jan (Mark) Herwaldt of Sugar Grove; 24 grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Jean in January 2009; and two brothers, Gene and Robert Wahrman. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Batavia. Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, before traveling to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 W. Main St., Batavia, to celebrate Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date in Risen Lord Catholic Cemetery in Oswego.
