Virgil Poore - Class Of 1947

 

Virgil Ray Poore, 88, of Bassett, Va. passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019. He was born in McCook, Neb. and was the son of the late Bessie (Carter) and Jay Poore. Virgil received his doctorate degree in Education from the University of Nebraska and was a proud Cornhusker. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Virgil started his career in education in 1954 and retired in 1995 as the Superintendent of Schools for Henry County, Va. He was a Rotarian and enjoyed boating. His beloved wife of 55 years, Ruth (Murray) Poore died in 2006. Virgil is survived by his sister, Phyllis Alberts; two children, Kevin (Gloria) and Kristi Doughty (Stephen); grandchildren, Elizabeth Eng, Douglas Poore and Christopher Doughty; and four great-grandchildren. A visitation will from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Fieldale United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Fieldale United Methodist Church in Collinsville, Va. with the Rev. Jan Grissett officiating. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
