Belva Fair (Shattuck) - Class Of 1945

Belva Shattuck, 81, a long-time resident of North Platte who recently moved to Petoskey, Mich., died Aug. 16, 2008, at her home with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. Belva was born July 2, 1927, in Lebanon. She married the late Allen Shattuck of Portland, Mich. and settled in Nebraska to raise their children on acreage in Sarben and later North Platte. Belva was a homemaker and dedicated her life to raising her children and instilling a deep regard for family and friends. Her children will always remember how she nurtured, encouraged, praised and loved them. She enjoyed rock collecting, especially treasuring Petoskey stones. She spent many years sailing with her husband and daughter on the Great Lakes. During the last 10 years, about 5 months of the year were spent either on their sailboat or living with their daughter. She was a person whom people remembered after meeting and whom people immediately felt comfortable talking with. She had a wonderful smile that drew people to her because she cared about those who came into her life. She loved to talk on the telephone and stayed connected with family and friends after her move to Petoskey. She taught her children to appreciate nature and love animals. At the Shattuck's you never knew what animal might be rescued and cared for. She is survived by her daughter, Linda and son-in-law Bill, of Petoskey; nephew, Garry Shepard of Littleton, Colo.; niece, Betti Lund of Lincoln; and a great-niece, Jodi Tipton of Aurora, Colo. She was also blessed with being a great-great aunt for Taylor and Kaiden of Aurora. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, in 2007; by her infant daughter, Janet, in 1954; by her son, Larry, in 1989; by her twin sister, Ruby in 1997. North Platte Telegraph 2 Sep 2008 Condolences may be sent to her daughter, Linda Henry at 2425 Hemlock Lane, Petoskey, MI 49770. It was Belva's wish that friends and family gather to share remembrances and stories about her life and how it touched theirs. Those remembrances can be sent to LBShattuck@chartermi.net and will be read at her celebration. The family is planning a celebration in honor of Belva's life at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sep. 6, 2008, at her daughter's home in Petoskey.
