Betty Lou (Nesmith) Kennedy was born January 16, 1927 in McCook Nebraska. Betty and her family moved to Longmont her senior year, graduating from Longmont High School in 1945. She married the love of her life, Gordon Kennedy of February 1, 1948 in Longmont. They celebrated 69 beautiful years together.
After graduation, she went to work as a dental hygienist. Along with her work as a dental hygienist, she helped on the family dairy farm. In September 1957, Betty stopped working as a dental hygienist as they welcomed home their first child, Debbie. She devoted her life to raising her family. In October 1969, Betty was awarded the Master Homemaker Award. Those that nominated her described her as a leader, very popular with neighbors and friends.
Betty was a member of the Hygiene Fire Maids and Longs Peak Grange, President of the Wednesday morning bowling league, secretary of Pomona Grange and Friday night mixed bowling league, past Oracle of Royal Neighbors of America and member of the State Grange Drill team. Betty loved and adored her grandkids and great-grandkids. They always brought a smile to her face and happiness to her heart. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, crocheting and watching the Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday night, with a TV dinner and 7&7. Betty’s love for crocheting will be remembered in all the blankets she made not only for her kids, but all of the grand-children. Any extra yarn left over, you could guarantee would be made into pot holders which she loved sharing with everyone.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, parents Edwin and Georgene Nesmith, sister Donna Cassidy, brother Robert (Bob) Nesmith, son Brian Kennedy, grand-daughter Amanda Kennedy. She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Bustamante (Mitch), Linda Glantz (Dan), grand-children Christie Kennedy, April Beumer (Jeremy), Breianne Kennedy, Cindy Mohr (Randy), Justin Glantz (Rachel), Jamie Glantz, Jared Glantz (Mandi Sullivan), Tami Bustamante (Nate Wysock) and Kati Bustamante, along with 16 great-grandchildren, Payton, Elliana, Kole, Blake, Ava, Will, Wyatt, Remy, Corbyn, Lane, Brian, Mykell, Ryder, Tristan, Eli and Zayden.
Betty had a beautiful soul with an infectious smile that could always brighten the darkest days, and when she gave you that crooked middle finger and her snickering laugh you knew she fiercely loved you! Praising what is lost makes the remembrance so dear.
