Virginia Reynolds (Bolles) - Class Of 1943

 

June 11, 1926-Nov. 11, 2004 The only daughter of the founders of the McCook Daily Gazette, Harry and Arlene Strunk, died last week in Arizona where she had resided for the last quarter century. Shirley Margaret Strunk Powell, 78, died Nov. 11, 2004, at Sun City, a retirement suburb of Phoenix. She suffered many years with crippling arthritis and recently with cancer. Survivors include Keith Powell, her husband of 57 years. Born in McCook, June 11, 1926, Shirley was a journalism graduate of the University of Nebraska and reported for the Lincoln Journal-Star and McCook Daily Gazette. She graduated from McCook High School in 1943 and Colorado Women's College, Denver, Colo., in 1945. She belonged to Delta-Delta-Delta Sorority, Panhellenic, the Daughters of the American Revolution and was active in church activities. She had been a member of McCook's First Congregational Church, where she was choir director. Before moving to Arizona, the Powells raised three children in McCook, Charles City, Iowa and Fresno, Calif. They include son, Korvin Powelll and wife, Pam of Greenwood Village, Colo., Karen Powell Driedger and husband, Jerry of Yuma, Ariz., and Kristin Powell Lee and husband, Michael of Phoenix, Ariz. Other survivors include a brother, Allen D. Strunk and wife, Linda of Las Vegas, Nev., and grandchildren, Eric Driedger and wife, Dawn of Yuma, Ariz., Chad Driedger and wife, Calline of Tucson, Ariz., Kimberlee Powell Gard and husband, Jonathan of Aurora, Colo., Morgan Powell of Denver, Colo., and Brian Lee and Karen Lee of Phoenix, Colo.; great-grandchildren include Jake, JD, and Samuel Gard of Aurora, Colo.
