Nadine Klein (Friehe) - Class Of 1943

 

McCOOK, Neb. -- Nadine June Friehe passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 88 years old. Nadine was born on the family farm near McCook on April 2, 1926, to parents, Benjamin and Olga Juliana Fredricka (Hinz) Klein. She graduated from McCook High School in 1943. On Feb. 20, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ervain John Friehe at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri. They made their home in several locations while Erv was in the service. They eventually returned to McCook where the couple farmed until retirement. Nadine was a devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church, LWML-Guild, Sunday School teacher and Forerunners Club. She was also a member of the Nebraska Wheat Hearts, Germans from Russia and helped coordinate the regional Nebraska Crippled Children's Clinic. Nadine was an avid reader, proficient in jigsaw puzzles and researched genealogy. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed needle work. She and Erv spent many happy summers at their vacation home in Estes Park, Colorado. Her passion was spending time with family and playing games with her grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ben and Olga Klein and son, Robert "Bob" Friehe. Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Erv Friehe of McCook; two daughters, Dr. Mary Friehe and Susan Christensen of Omaha; sons, Ronald Friehe and wife, Doris, of McCook and Thomas Friehe and wife, Mari Jo, of Estes Park, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Mary Louise Friehe of Omaha; brother, Don Klein and wife, Norma, of McCook; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
