Dean Hamilton - Class Of 1941

Fredric Dean Hamilton, age 98, of McHenry, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was born on March 29, 1923 in West Point, Nebraska to Frank J. and Mabel (Cart) Hamilton. He grew up in McCook, Nebraska. There he married Irene Wilcox, who was his best friend and the love of his life, on June 14, 1945. They had four children and were happily wed for 70 years. He served proudly in the Navy during WWII. He graduated from the University of Nebraska on the GI bill. He worked for 42 years at General Telephone Directory Co. as a production manager. For his job, he traveled to the Philippines, Singapore, and many Central American countries. He was a member of the Lions Club, American Field Service and was also a Scoutmaster. He had many hobbies over the years, including golfing, sailing, shooting, wood working and building things. He excelled at card games and enjoyed playing poker with his buddies. He loved to sing so much he spent many years in the church choir. He also enjoyed watching football on TV and rooting for his alma mater. But his greatest love was spending time with family and friends creating memories and funny stories to cherish for a lifetime. He is survived by his children: Cheryl Hamilton of New York, Mike (Linda) Hamilton of Illinois, Bruce Hamilton of Tennessee, Sheila (James) Powers of Illinois; grandchildren: Gina (Adam) Duman, Eric (Amanda) Hamilton, Jeffrey (Megan) Hamilton; and great grandchildren: Elena, Emmett, Dean, Ava, and Charlie; and sister: Beryl Knotwell of Nebraska. Preceded by his wife: Irene; parents: Frank and Mabel; brother: Kenneth and sister: Lenora. Visitation will be Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Justen Funeral Home & Crematory 3700 Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Funeral service to follow at 3:00 pm. In accordance with public gathering restrictions, attendees are expected to wear a mask and observe social distancing. The funeral home staff will monitor capacity limits and allow up to 50 people in at a time. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Justen Funeral Home & Crematory.
