Cloyd Hoyt - Class Of 1936

Cloyd Hoyt July 26, 1918 - Jan. 17, 2021 McCOOK, Neb. — Cloyd Hoyt of rural McCook, lately residing in Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa. He was 102. Cloyd Franklin Hoyt was born in McCook on July 26, 1918, to James Franklin and Hazel Mae (Thomson) Hoyt. He graduated from McCook High School in 1936, and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he met his wife. He married Lola Burke in Edison on Dec. 23, 1939. Together, Cloyd and Lola raised four children whom he considered to be his greatest joy. Cloyd was a farmer and public service devotee. He farmed in both Hitchcock, on the land his grandparents homesteaded, and Red Willow counties, raising irrigated corn, cattle and sheep. He attended and was a board member of the Stone Church that his grandparents helped to found in Hitchcock County, NE in 1900. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Paul%27s_Methodist_Protestant_Church_(Culberts...) As a public servant, he was instrumental in bringing electricity, phone, and irrigation services to the Southwest Nebraska area. He served on many boards, including District 8 School Board, REA, Red Cross, and the Frenchman Cambridge Irrigation District. Survivors include one son, William “Bill” (Barbara) Hoyt of McCook; two daughters, Loree Hoyt Neiman of Round Rock, Texas, and Beverly Hoyt (Robert) Brown of Thayer, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hoyt of McCook; grandchildren, Kellin (Lisa) Neiman of Georgetown, Texas, Jason (Allison) Neiman of Pflugerville, Texas, Martina Hoyt of Renton, Wash., Edith (Rusty) Rushing of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., Jessica (David) Miller of McCook, Roberta (Justin) Weber of Cheyenne, Wyo., Sarah (Erik Niggemeyer) Brown of Thayer, Iowa, Rebecca (Matthew) Sheridan of Lorimor, Iowa, Matthew (Erika) Brown of Creston, Iowa, David (Melissa) Hoyt, currently based in San Diego, Calif., and Daniel (Belma) Hoyt of Omaha, Neb.; great-grandchildren, Jacey (Trevor) Shannon, Garrett (Haley) Neiman, Maximus and Zoe Neiman, Raylynn, Kendall and Josilin Miller, Tristan and Morgan Rushing, Aiden and Brennen Weber, Genevieve Niggemeyer, Owen and Aubrey Sheridan, Catherine and Nathanial Hoyt, and first-name-to-be-announced Hoyt expected in August; great-great-grandchild, Atlas Neiman; sister, Carol (Harold) Miller of Wenatchee, Wash.; and sister-in-law, Patty Tibke of Trinidad, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Preceding him in death include his parents; wife, Lola, of 62 years; son, Robert Hoyt; son-in-law, Elray Neiman; two infant daughters; and brother and sister-in-law, James and Wyona Hoyt.
