GREELEY, Colo. — Robert (Bobby) E. Hawkins, 93, residing in the Centennial Health Care Center in Greeley, passed away in his sleep on Nov. 16, 2017.

Bobby was born July 22, 1924, on the family farm south of McCook, Neb., to Benjamin and Ida Hawkins. Bobby grew up on the farm with his two brothers and two sisters and attended grade school in Danbury, Neb. Bobby attended high school in McCook but quit school at the age of 17 to enlist in the U.S. Navy to fight in World War II. After the war, Bobby worked as a truck driver and as a heavy equipment operator. Bobby went to Alaska in 1960 and worked on the Alaskan pipeline and flew a small plane as an Alaskan bush pilot. Bobby came back to the McCook area and settled in Trenton, Neb., with his wife, Ginny. She preceded him in death 10 years ago, and Bobby lived in Trenton until 2014, when a medical emergency required that he move into the Centennial Health Care Facility.

Bobby has been married several times and has three children from his ex-wife, Betty Wright: a son, Steven Hawkins of Greeley, daughter, Christine Breazier and husband, Steve of Pender, Neb., and daughter, Julie Hawkins of McCook. Bobby has two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. Bobby also has numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bobby was preceeded in death by both of his parents, Benjamin and Ida; his brothers, Lewis J. Hawkins and Owen Hawkins; and sisters, Ethyl Kinkade and Lena Logan.

Services will be held at a later date.
