Catherine Rose - Class Of 1935

Catherine B. Rose Friday, September 8, 2006 Aug. 13, 1918-Sept. 7, 2006 Catherine B. Rose, age 88, died Thursday, (Sept.7, 2006), at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Catherine was born in Clearwater, Neb., on Aug. 13, 1918, to Leo A. and Julia Catherine (Purcell) Rose. She attended grade school at Clearwater before the family moved to McCook where she attended St. Patrick's Catholic School through the 11th grade. Catherine graduated from McCook High School in 1935 and McCook Junior College in 1937. Following her graduation from McCook Junior College, Catherine started employment June 1, 1937, at the local electrical utility company in McCook -- Platte Valley Public Power & Irrigation District -- which eventually transitioned to Nebraska Public Power District in 1970. Catherine was an integral member of the NPPD staff for several years -- with her final position being that of District Office Supervisor. Catherine retired on Aug. 31, 1983, after 46 years with the company and it predecessors. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Dominican Associates of St. Catherine of Siena Sisters of Louisville, Ky., Auxiliary Member of the Legion of Mary, and Padraic Extension Club of Red Willow. Preceding her in death were her parents, Leo and Julia Rose; two sisters, Clara Gray and Margaret Rose; one brother, Richard Rose; and a brother-in-law, Orville Gray. Catherine is survived by numerous cousins and many good friends. Memorials may be given in her name to Hillcrest Nursing Home Foundation. Visitation will be Friday until 5 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until noon and Sunday 4 p.m. until time of rosary. Friends may go online at to extend condolences. Rosary will be Sunday, September 10, 6 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Sept. 11, 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
