Sara Rathbun (Reiners) - Class Of 1958

Sara L. Reiners entered her heavenly home Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Community Hospital of McCook after a year and a half long courageous battle with cancer. Sara was born on Nov. 18, 1940, in Hayes Center to Donald Allen and Dorothy Jean (Counce) Rathbun. She attended elementary school in Hayes Center. She moved with her family to Catoosa, Okla., were she continued her schooling. They moved back to McCook in 1954 where Sara completed her high school years, graduating in 1958. On Dec. 14, 1958, she married Kenneth Eugene Reiners at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. They made their home on a farm near Danbury. Kenneth preceded her in death on April 4, 1984. She was employed as a secretary for Danbury Oil, served as a hostess for the Chief Restaurant and later was a cashier for Hinky Dinky and SunMart. She retired in 2003 when her health declined. Sara was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed woodworking, especially refinishing and restoring antique furniture. Preceding her in death were her parents, Donald and Dorothy Rathbun; her husband, Kenneth; and an infant son. Survivors include her four daughters, Brenda and husband, William "Mike" Lawless of North Platte, Shari and husband, Steve Haag of McCook, Teresa and husband, Rocky Diederich of Oberlin, and Gay and husband, Robb Leitner of Herndon; best friend, Bob Matheny of Danbury; sister, Kay Oglevie of Omaha; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, Beaver Valley Ambulance or Community HealthCare and Hospice.
