Janet Colgan (Smith) - Class Of 1955

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Janet Mary Colgan Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, died Sept. 1, 2008. Janet was born to John Gilbert and Julia Frances Colgan in McCook, Neb. in 1938, the youngest of four, including brother Jack, and sisters Geraldine and Margaret. She graduated from McCook Senior High and from Marshall University in Huntington, West Va., where she served as Alpha Chi Omega's Sorority President. Janet was the world's best full-time Mom, a highly successful teacher in West Virginia, and retired as a Legal Assistant to Jerry Emrich at Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley, Emrich & Walsh in 2007 after a wonderful 23 year career. She leaves to cherish her memories daughter Dawn Morris and her husband John of Harrisonburg, Va.; daughter Karen Smith and her husband Laurent Tshumy of Boulder, Colo; son Samuel Smith, his wife Laura Simmons-Smith, and their children Virginia and Peter, of Fort Meade, Md; nephew Gilbert Riley of Des Plaines, Ill; niece Julie Ehrhardt of Schaumburg, Ill; niece Cathy Riley of San Jose, Calif.; nephews Aaron and Drew Smith of Huntington, West Va.; and niece Lora Pullin of Flatwoods, Ky. Janet's hard work, sacrifice and good humor were great examples for her family and friends. She was incredibly loving, generous and patient, and will forever be a wellspring of love, strength, hope and courage.
