LOVELAND, Colo. -- Dr. Mary Elizabeth Nickolaus, 72, died May 27, 2006 of polycystic disease.

She was born June 19, 1933, in Holdrege, to Bill and Fran Nickolaus. Her hometown was McCook. She lived in Greeley for the past year, before moving to Loveland.

She received her nursing diploma from the University of Denver/Presbyterian Hospital; bachelor's degree in nursing from Loretto Heights College, in Denver in 1972; master's degree of public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Public Health in 1974; and doctor of public health in 1987 from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health.

She was a professor and taught at the University of Southern Colorado, Pueble; University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas; University of Northern Colorado, Greeley; and Texas University of Houston.

She was a retired professor emeritus in nursing, director of public health, consultant, grant writer and jazz singer. She was the first soloist for the Queen City Jazz Band.

She is survived by her family and friends.

There were no services.
