Shirley Harsch (Jurgensen) - Class Of 1950

GRAND ISLAND -- Catherine Shirley Jurgensen, 72, died Monday (Dec. 6, 2004) at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

She was born July 8, 1932, to Henry C. and Hilda M. (Brenning) Harsch. She attended elementary school in Lebanon and graduated from McCook High School in 1950.

On May 12, 1951, Shirley married Dan Jurgensen. The couple lived in McCook, but later moved to Grand Island. She was employed by the Northwestern Bell Company in 1951 as an operator. She was promoted as a wire chief and after moving to Grand Island, continued to work as a repair clerk for the phone company. In 1993, she retired from the company, then called U.S. West, after 40 years of service.

She was a member of the McCook Assembly of God Church and the Assembly of God Church in Grand Island. She was also active as a Sunday school teacher and performed in the choir and as a pianist and accordionist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dan; and sister-in-law, Virginia Harsch.

Survivors include her daughter, Heidi and husband, Jon Watson; son, Stan Jurgensen; brother, Harold Harsch of Bartley; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at Bartley Cemetery in Bartley.

Memorials may be left in her name at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
