Louise Bernhardt (Corcoran) - Class Of 1928

Louise Corcoran Services Held Louise M. Corcoran, of Grand Island, was born January 19, 1910, at Lebanon, Nebraska to John Bernhardt and Emma (Kissler) Bernhardt and died Wednesday, July 23, 1997 at the Lakeview Rehab Nursing Center in Grand Island. She grew up in McCook graduating from McCook High School in 1928. She attended McCook Junior College and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1934. On May 1, 1940 she married Leo Corcoran at Grand Island. They resided on a farm at St. Edward. Mrs. Corcoran taught Home Economics at Big Springs for two years after college, was Home Extension Agent in Hall County in the late 1930's and taught Home Economics at St. Edward for one year in the late 1940's. She also taught at St. Bonaventure School in Columbus for a short time and worked at Cornhusker Public Power District for twenty years until her retirement. She moved to Grand Island in 1983 following the death of her husband. Survivors include two sons, Paul Corcoran of Washington, Illinois and Calvin Corcoran of Alva, Florida; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 12, 1982, two brothers, and three sisters. Memorial services were at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 1997 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. Father Henry Kurtenbach officiated. She donated her body to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her ashes will be interred in the family plot at a later date.
