Lenora Schmitz (Johnson) - Class Of 1924

WESTCLIFFE, Colo. -- Burial services will be Thursday (May 2, 2002) at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook for Lenora Marie (Schmitz) Johnson, late of Westcliffe, Colo. She died at her home Dec. 16. 2001. She was 95. Born Nov. 11, 1906, to Joseph Alfred and Lenora Mary (Smith) Schmitz, she was raised on a farm southwest of McCook, and attended McCook High School, graduating with the Class of 1924. In 1926, she married Earl (Swede) Arthur Johnson in McCook. After marriage, they owned and operated a restaurant and raised three sons. In 1959, she and Earl moved to Denver, where she later became head of housekeeping at St. Luke's Hospital. Following her retirement in 1972, she moved to Westcliffe to be with her brother, Claude and her sister, Rose. Until recently, she was active at the Silver Cliff Senior Center, the Priscilla Club, the Silver Cliff Ladies Club. During her years in Westcliffe, she was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 1959; a son, Joseph Earl Johnson in 1929; six brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by three sons, Arthur and wife, Pauline Johnson of Overland, Mo., Donald and wife, Mildred Johnson of Westminster,Colo., and Wayne and wife, Myrna Johnson of Westcliffe; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren
