Allen Boughton - Class Of 1923

Harris Allen Boughton, 99, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at The Woodlands in The Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be held at Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church, 327 35th St. NE, on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 2:00 in the afternoon.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Lorraine Webb Boughton; his daughter, Carole B. Whitcomb; his grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Whitcomb and Jennifer W. Mueller; and five great-grandchildren.

Boughton was born Aug. 23, 1905, in LaMoille, Ill., the son of the Rev. Clement Abner Boughton and Janette Grace Allen Boughton.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Newell Washborn Boughton.

He attended Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Boughton was a member of the Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church, Crescent Lodge 25 AF&AM: Consistory Scottish Rite, and a charter member of the SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America).

He was employed as a civil engineer by the Nebraska Department of Roads and Irrigation for 16 years and by the Howard R. Green Co. in Cedar Rapids for 32 years. He retired in 1977.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Allen Boughton Memorial Fund at Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church.
