Evelyn M. Heumesser, 98, died Tuesday (Jan. 20, 2004) at Community Hospital of McCook.

She was born May 14, 1905, to Marion O. and Josephine (Snyder) McClure in McCook. She grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1923. She graduated from Ford Business School in 1924. She was employed as a credit manager for Montogomery Ward in Grand Island and later at Fort Collins, Colo. She later became credit manager and bookkeeper for State Dry goods and for the Jo Ann Dress Shop.

On Sept. 14, 1940, she married Hugh Heumesser in Fort Collins. For many years she sold real estate for the Faith Realty and Bob Busch Realty. She retired in 1970. She returned to McCook in 1995 and resided at the Willow Ridge retirement community.

She was a member of the Methodist church and Eureka Chapter 86 Order of Eastern Star in McCook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh in July 1990; two brothers, William McClure and Frank McClure; three sisters, Josephine Hegenberger, Ruby May McClure and infant sister.

Survivors include Elaine Keene and husband, LaMoine, Diane Trail and husband, Charles of McCook, Mary Jeanne Croskrey and husband, Dave of Eugene, Ore., Steve Keene and wife, Sherry of Pittsburgh, Calif., and Roy Fritchel and wife, Doris of Mount Airy, Ga.

Services are Saturday, 2 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Interment is in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
