Murel McNutt - Class Of 1952

Murel D. McNutt Tuesday, October 14, 2008 March 3, 1935 - Oct. 13. 2008 Murel Donald McNutt died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at his home in McCook at the age of 73. He was born March 3, 1935, in McCook, the son of the late Roy S. and Lucille M. (Marcum) McNutt. Murel grew up in McCook where he attended McCook Senior High School. In 1952, Murel joined the National Guard, serving until 1958. On Sept. 19, 1954, Murel married Helen E. Gohl in McCook. They made their home in McCook until moving to the McCook Army Airbase where he worked grain storage from 1952 to 1957, and worked on building the Red Willow Dam. They moved to a farm near Beverly, Neb., before moving to Hayes Center, Neb., where he farmed until moving to McCook in 2000. He served as a Hayes County Commissioner and drove the school bus. His greatest enjoyment was 54 years of married life, fun times with his children and grandchildren, farming and driving his semi truck. He was actively attending the Evangelical Free Church in McCook. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. Murel is survived by his wife Helen McNutt of McCook; two daughters, Diana Gartrell and husband, Bruce of Columbus, Neb., and Peggy Ruppert and husband, Andy of Culbertson; one son, Earl McNutt and wife, Debbie of McCook; seven grandchildren, triplets, Brian, Gregory and wife, Jessica and Jeffrey Gartrell, Joshua McNutt, Lindsey McNutt, Aaron Ruppert and Danelle Ruppert; two sisters, Delores Snyder and husband, Merle of Iowa and Rita Tyson and husband, Ottas of Montana; two brothers, Harold "Herb" McNutt and wife, Kay of Kearney, Neb., and Jerry McNutt and wife, Mary of Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Dolores Gohl and Virginia Gohl; and brother-in-law, Glen Gohl and wife, Caryl; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Evangelical Free Church in McCook with the Rev. Bruce Lester and Chris Atkins officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. McCook Daily Gazette McCook, NE
