Ray Search, 99, of McCook, died Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at El Dorado Manor in Trenton. He was born Nov. 12, 1902, at Wymore to Morton and Marian (Spire) Search. In 1908 the family moved to McCook where he grew up and graduated from McCook High School in 1923. On July 11, 1933, he married Helen Frossard at Stockton, Kan. He has spent his life in McCook. In 1913, he began his theater career during the stage and silent movies era when he managed the Electric Theater and the Temple Theater. For 45 years he was manager of Fox Theater, retiring in 1971. He was the only person in southwest Nebraska who was qualified to repair and maintain pipe organs, and was in charge of the organ at Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member for 91 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen on Oct. 30, 1985; and one son, Charles in 1937. Survivors include two daughters, Frances Search and Beverly Woolwine and husband, Richard, all of McCook; one sister, Effie Davis of Medford, Ore.; two granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters. Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
