SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Dennis Hart Townsend, 53, died June 4, 2002, at the Sienna Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
He was born March 28, 1949, to Loren and Gwendolyn (Coyle) Townsend in Scottsbluff. He moved with his family to McCook where he graduated with the Class of 1967. He served in the Vietnam War as a Crew Chief on the KC-135 Ariel Tanker.

On Dec. 4, 1976, he married Joan Barnum.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gwen.

Survivors include his wife, Joan of Rapid City, S.D.; one son, Jason of Rapid City; his father, Loren of McCook; one brother, Gary Townsend and wife, Courtney of Plano, Texas; one sister, Laurie and husband, Don Riggs of Houston, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were June 7, 2002, in Rapid City. Interment was in the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, S.D. with military honors provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.
