James Raymond Trupp, 58, of Imperial, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) at his home following a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was born March 22, 1944, in McCook, to Raymond and Elsie (Foster) Trupp. He attended country school at District 8 through eighth grade, graduating from McCook High School in 1962 and McCook Community College in 1964. He then attended Chadron State College.
On Sept. 9, 1965, he was united in marriage to Geri Chase at North Platte. To this union a son, James Conrad, was born. On Feb. 1, 1974, he married Linley Schrader in McCook, embracing her daughter Wendy as his own.
On July 18, 1997, he married Jan Harmon at Imperial. Jim worked at many different jobs. He first learned the brick laying trade, worked for Dayco of McCook, then as a construction worker for Radec, helping to build McCook Community Hospital and then moving to Imperial to help build the Chase County School. He then went to work for the chemical and fertilizer business of Imperial and at the time of his death was working for UAP of Imperial.
Jim was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, McCook Elks Lodge No.1434, the McCook Eagles No. 2769 and Imperial Eagles No. 3472. He was a charter member of Ducks Unlimited, helping to establish the McCook chapter. He taught Hunters Safety to area youth for many years. Jim loved the outdoors. He spent many hours hunting and fishing, sharing his love of the sport with his son and nephews when they were young boys. He especially loved hunting with his wife Jan, his many friends and of course his dogs. He was able to enjoy hunting within a few weeks of his death. His dog Flip will miss hunting with him and their nightly walks followed by his bowl of cereal and milk. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie in 1964; his father, Raymond in 1987; his maternal grandparents, Stephen and Fannie Foster; and paternal grandparents Conrad and Edith Trupp.
Survivors include his wife, Jan of Imperial; son, James and friend, Sandra of Phoenix, Ariz.,; stepmother, Lorna Trupp of McCook; stepdaughters, Wendy and husband, Chad Cox of Grand Island and Cheryl and husband, Jim Brown of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepsons, Ron Leibhart and wife, Chris of Lexington, Michael Leibhart and wife, Kristie of Hershey, and Daniel Leibhart and wife, Stacy of Imperial; three sisters, Sharon and husband, Steve Frimann of Stapleton, Kathie and husband, Dick Cappel of McCook, and Karen and husband, Maurice Allen of Berthoud, Colo.; stepbrother, Michael Wagner of Fort Laramie, Wyo.; stepsisters, Patty and husband, Ira Zimmerman of McCook and Mary Beth and husband, Jim Carlson of Scottsbluff; one grandson; five step granddaughters and five step grandsons; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Jim will long be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and a friend to many. He did not know a stranger.
Funeral services were Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Albans Episcopal Church in McCook with Rev. Sam Williams officiating with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in his name to benefit Dundy County Hospital or St. Albans Episcopal Church.
