LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Heath L. Pierson, age 25, died on Jan. 20, 2015, in Lakewood, Colorado, in a motor-vehicle accident.

He was born in North Platte, Nebraska, on July 10, 1989, to Brian and Jill (Hoge) Pierson. Heath grew up in McCook, Nebraska, and graduated from McCook High School in 2008. Heath was active in athletics in high school. He played basketball, football and summer baseball.

After graduation, Heath moved to Denver to attend Johnson & Wales University and studied business and culinary arts. He graduated in 2012 with a degree in business finance. Heath worked at Jax Fish House in downtown Denver. Heath also lived a year in Steamboat Springs, making a daily trip to the ski slopes before heading to work at Café Diva. He enjoyed golfing, fly fishing and skiing.

At age 16, Heath decided to be listed as an organ donor. He remained committed to this each time he renewed his driver's license. As a result of this decision, Heath's organs were harvested for donation to waiting recipients.
