Feb. 15, 1956 - May 2, 2014

McCOOK, Neb. -- Terry Dean Chitwood, age 58, died at Community Hospital in McCook on Friday, May 2, 2014.

He was born in McCook on Feb. 15, 1956, to Jessie and Roberta (Kohmetscher) Chitwood. Terry attended school and graduated from McCook High School in 1974.

In 1974, Terry entered the United States Navy and served for 10 years. He was honorably discharged in Aug. 15, 1984. On Sept. 3, 1978, he married Christine Mazzotta and to this union one daughter, Christy, was born.

Terry was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad as an engineer. He was employed by Burlington Northern for over 20 years.

He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and his grandchildren. Terry traveled throughout the United States. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Gene Cappel.

Survivors include his daughter, Christy and husband, Mark Puleo of Newburgh, New York; two grandchildren, Dominic and Gianna Puleo; four sisters, Deb and husband, Rick Cumming of Danbury, Nebraska; Peggy and husband, Dan Dueland, Rose and husband, Joe Koetter and Cindy and husband, Dave Pohl, all of McCook; two brothers, Mark and wife, Stacy of McCook and Todd and wife, Diane of Aurora, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. A memorial mass will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Father Gary Brethour officiating.

Visitation will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel on Monday, from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. until after the rosary. Family has chosen cremation and no inurnment plans have been made at this time.

Memorials may be left in Terry's name to the American Heart Association.
