John Fitzsimmons - Class Of 1965

John C. Fitzsimmons

June 24, 1946 - July 7, 2019

INDIANOLA, Neb. — John Craig Fitzsimmons of Indianola passed away Sunday,
July 7, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 73 years old.
John was born on June 24, 1946, to John P. and Lucille (Harmon) Fitzsimmons in
Grand Island, Neb. The family moved to McCook in 1955, where John graduated
from McCook High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968
and was a Viet Nam vet.
John was an excellent carpenter and built a great number of homes in California,
Colorado, Montana and Nebraska.
He married Peggy Batt Rector on June 3, 1983, in California and between them they
had six children.
John spent hours working on his 1967 Ford Fairlane GT, hoping to race it in the
Nostalgia Race at Julesburg, Colo., in August but it was not to be.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; sister, Julie; stepson,
Donnie; and two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Fitzsimmons; son, Lance (Kalene) Fitzsimmons;
daughter, Jennifer (Brett) Johansen; stepdaughter, Jeannie (Bob) Behrens;
stepsons, Rusty (Roxanne) Rector, and Rodney (LuAnn) Rector; nine grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren.

family. The family will honor John’s wishes to be cremated with no public service. A
private family inurnment will be at a later time.
