Dean F. Dack

Nov. 12, 1942 - June 19, 2017

PAXTON, Neb. — Dean F. Dack, 74, of Paxton, died June 19, 2017, in the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Dean F. Dack was born Nov. 12, 1942, in McCook, Neb., to Clyde F.  and Grace Marie (Grafel) Dack.

On Dec. 30, 1961, Dean was united in marriage to Vesta Smith in McCook, where they made their home prior to moving to Paxton in 2016. Two children were born to this union. They were also blessed with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dean graduated from McCook High School in 1960 and began his career in the oil field business.  Dean worked in all aspects of the oil field, learning the business by starting out as a roustabout, oil drilling deck hand, operating the drilling rig as a driller and supervising as a tool pusher.  Dean also worked as an oil field pumper before going to work for the State of Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in 1986 as a field inspector. He remained with the State of Nebraska until he retired after 30 years.  Dean made numerous friendships throughout his work experiences, which he cherished and enjoyed keeping in contact with them.

Dean enjoyed passing along his love for hunting and fishing with his grandchildren by spending time with them and telling them stories from his own experiences. He also enjoyed raising black angus cattle and always talked about buying a few Lowlines to replace them.

After retirement, Dean’s days were filled with visits from his family, friends and caring for his four-legged companions Holly, Hurley and Hank.

Dean was baptized in McCook on March 10, 1945, and was confirmed in the Catholic Church on April 2014.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Vesta Dack; children Cindy (Terry) Nichols of Hershey, Del (Geri) Dack of Paxton; five grandchildren, Chase (Jamie) Nichols of Wauneta, Cody Nichols (Mariah Miller) of Sidney, Montana, Josh (Amanda) Dack of Paxton, Michelle (Avery) Thomas of Lincoln and Taylor Dack of Paxton; and two great-grandchildren, Cord and Joann Nichols of Wauneta.
