McCOOK, Nebraska -- Barbara Jéne Baker, 71, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Barbara was born on Feb. 12, 1940, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Harold C. "Buck" and Elsie Myrtle "Kitty" (Hyatt) Weiss. She graduated from McCook High School in 1959.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Baker on July 4, 1960, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. Barbara was a busy homemaker and mother of two children.

Barbara liked to crochet, work word puzzles and spend time with her faithful companion and pet canine, Trudy.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Buck and Kitty Weiss.

Survivors include her two children, David Baker and wife, Sandy of McCook and Pamela and husband, Jerry Sterling of North Platte, Nebraska; sister, Janette and husband, Willard Marks of McCook; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Memorials may be given in her name to the McCook Humane Society.

Visitation is Monday, April 11, 2011, from 1-8 p.m. at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Graveside services are Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at 3 p.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook with Father Gary Brethour officiating.
