Burdean Geihsler (Melchert) - Class Of 1955

BENKELMAN, Neb. — Burdean M. Melchert was born to Harold and Sophia (Kircher) Geihsler on Dec. 16, 1937, in Hayes Center, Neb. She grew up in McCook, Neb., and graduated from McCook High School in 1955. Burdean married Alfred Melchert on May 26, 1956, in Oberlin, Kan. They lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, for one year before settling in Stratton, Neb. Burdean sewed drapery for Komacs and J.C. Penney in McCook and later started her own drapery business. She did all this while helping her husband run and manage their car business, A&B Motors in Stratton. Burdean passed away Monday evening, June 3, 2019, at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman. She was 81 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; eldest son, Steve; and her siblings. Survivors include her son, Rick Melchert and wife, Karen of Trenton, Neb.; four granddaughters, one grandson and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday morning, June 7, 2019; 10 a.m. (CT) at the Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with Pastor Rod Helibrun officiating. Interment will follow services in the Trenton Cemetery, Trenton. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon, June 6, 2019, from 4 to 6 p.m.,(CT) at the Community United Methodist Church in Stratton.
