Larry O'Donnell - Class Of 1953

Michael Larry O’Donnell, age 83, of Manhattan, KS, formerly of McCook, NE, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 in Manhattan. Larry was born March 16, 1935 in McCook to parents John Francis and Mary Elizabeth (Jones) O’Donnell. He was the only boy among five sisters born to this union. Larry attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1953. Following high school, Larry furthered his education at McCook Community College and Peru State University. On August 18, 1956 Larry married the love of his life, Evelyn Irene (Teel) O’Donnell in McCook. The couple was blessed with six children: Kirk, Casey, Mark, Karen, Kathleen and Keri. In 1956, Larry and Evelyn moved to Southern California where Larry worked at North American Rockwell Aviation and McDonnell Douglas as an industrial engineer. In 1977, the family moved back to McCook. While in McCook, Larry worked as an automobile salesman for Lee Jansen and Andy Anderson. In 1994 they moved back to California and then retired in Manhattan in 2005. Larry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, McCook Elks Lodge and American Institute of Industrial Engineers. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook and St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; son Mark Patrick in infancy; his five sisters, Marquerite Kilburn, Marjorie O’Donnell, Vera Hassler, Patsy Adams, and Virginia Lebsack. Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Evelyn O’Donnell of Manhattan; sons Kirk (Kim) O’Donnell of Salina, KS and Casey O’Donnell of Castle Rock, CO; daughters, Karen (Larry) Colgan of Mission Viejo, CA, Kathleen (Kevin) Carney of Island Park, NY and Keri Clare of Tampa, FL; as well as twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.
