VENTURA, Calif. -- Marian Joyce (Murphy) Malone passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, in Ventura, California, of complications from Alzheimer's disease. 

She was born on July 28, 1934, on a farm near Ludell, Kansas, to Susan Elizabeth (Unger) Murphy and William Patrick Murphy. She grew up in McCook, Nebraska.

She is predeceased by her older brother, William James Murphy and her younger sister, Patricia Jean (Murphy) Duesburg. She is survived by her younger sisters, Elizabeth Ann (Murphy) Coba of Caldwell, Idaho and Geraldine Marie (Murphy) Schwartz of Bellevue, Nebraska; younger brothers, Robert Francis Murphy of Sequim, Washington, and Thomas Charles Murphy of Westminster, Colorado. Marian's daughter, Michelle Susan (Malone) Landgraff resides in Huntsville, Alabama; and her son, Michael Malone, lives in Ventura, California. She has four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and over two dozen nieces and nephews. 

Marian's spouse of over 30 years was Sergeant Major Douglas Warren Malone, now deceased. During his military career they lived in North Carolina, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Okinawa, Japan, Kentucky, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and California. Marian considered herself fortunate to have traveled and lived in a variety of states and cultures.

Her degree was in elementary education and she taught first and third grades. Marian worked as an administrative assistant at the Lompoc, California public library for more than 10 years until her retirement.

Marian was an avid reader, had a keen interest in politics, and characterized herself as a "news junkie." She was an excellent baker and candy maker. Being with her grandchildren was one of her greatest joys.

There will be a Rosary Service on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, 7 p.m., at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, in Ventura.

Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, 2 p.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 10800 Henderson Road, in Ventura.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
