McCOOK, Nebraska -- Cleora Ellen Cox, 84, died Monday May 24, 2010, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska.

She was born July 6, 1925, in Best, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary E. (Young) Cox. Cleora grew up in McCook where she graduated from McCook High School.

For several years she worked for Ideal Laundry, where her nickname was Jay, and Moffitt's Cafe before working for J. C. Penney for over 35 years. She retired in 1995.

She spent a lot of time volunteering at the Hillcrest Nursing Home playing bingo with relatives and friends that lived there. She also enjoyed watching her nephews and great nephews pateicipate in sports.

She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Doris Mohr, Lois Schneider, and Mamie (Hackenkamp) Knosp; two sisters-in-law, Rochelle Cox, and Mavis Monard; and grandson Melvin R. Cox, Jr.

Cleora is survived by her son, Melvin Cox and wife, Lynda of Bennett, Nebraska; a brother, Stanley Cox of McCook; brother-in-law Carl Mohr; two grandchildren, Troy Cox of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Greg Cox of Bennett, Nebraska; and several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
