ARAPAHOE?-- Lorraine "Tootie" Hoffman, 83, of Arapahoe, died Sunday (March 15, 2009) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born Aug. 27, 1925, in McCook to John and Anna (Schwartz) Roth. She attended McCook Public Schools and on Aug. 27, 1943, she married Fred Hoffman of McCook. They moved to Arapahoe in 1947, where they owned a body shop, an implement dealership, a trucking firm and ultimately began farming.

In 2005, they moved to Mesa, Ariz., where they had a winter home for 30 years. In April of 2008, they moved to Northridge Retirement Community in Kearney.

She was a master seamstress and quilter.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy; her parents; five brothers, John Roth, Hank Roth, Ruben Roth, Ray Roth and Al Roth; and two sisters, Pauline Walters and Mary Uhrich.

Survivors include her husband, Fred of Kearney; son, Jerry and wife, Diane Hoffman of Cambridge; brothers, Ed Roth of Oregon and Marvin Roth of Lincoln; sister, Jeanette and husband Eldon Reynolds of Loomis; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe. The casket will be open at the funeral home only.
